Asian Corporate & Entrepreneur Leaders (ACEL) is proud to announce that Dr. Karen Eng will be a keynote speaker for ACEL’s Dynamics of Leadership Conference.  She will also be leading two additional workshops on So You Want To Be On a Non-Profit Board?’ and ‘Understanding the Pieces that Build upon Personal Brand’

Dr. Karen Eng, a pioneer in the STEM world, is President and CEO at CSMI, an engineering firm that specializes in engineering services, process improvements and project management.  CSMI’s clients include behemoths Frito-Lay, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, and General Mills.  Dr. Eng leads a company that started as a regional Midwest organization and now spans across the United States.

Dr. Eng is passionate about entrepreneurship and women and minority-owned businesses.  She is offers her experience by mentoring owners with an emphasis on STEM education.  Her goal is to inspire more female engineers, who she believes are the future of the world in STEM.  Dr. Eng holds a Doctorate of Optometry and a Biochemistry and Biology degree.  Her workshop on ‘Understanding the Pieces that Build upon Personal Brand’ will discuss how all aspects of our lives, including our professional career, personal goals and hobbies, friends, family and extracurricular activities, reflect our brand.

Additionally, Dr. Eng is an active community member, participating on various public and private Boards, Councils and Committees.  She chairs the Board of Trustees for the Illinois College of Optometry, she is a member of  the Executive Committee of the Board for the National Asian/Pacific Islander American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (ACE), and is also a member of the Board of the Asian & Pacific Islander American Votes.  She was also the first Asian American to be appointed to the Advisory Committee of the Export Import Bank of the United States and she also holds a position on the State of Illinois Business Enterprise Program Council.  Her workshop on ‘Balancing Life on the Board’ will discuss what questions to ask to serve better for a non-profit board and how to balance the give-and-take of non-profit Board volunteerism.

Dr. Eng has spoken at numerous national and international events, including the Working Mother Media’s Chicago Women’s Leadership Summit, the MBDA Chicago Globalization conference, and the Food and Drug Law Institute’s conference in Beijing.  She has also spoken at the Export Import Bank of the United States regarding exporting back to China and has been a panelist for Senator Durbin’s U.S. Export seminar as well as having spoken at an Executive Director Boot Camp for North Park University.
