Kimber Lanning (Moderator) is an entrepreneur and community development specialist, dedicated to building self-reliant communities across Arizona. As the founder and CEO of Local First Arizona, she focuses on creating an inclusive and diverse state economy. Local First Arizona is widely recognized for its efforts in leveling the playing field and providing greater access to capital for entrepreneurs and communities of all sizes. Kimber’s comprehensive approach to economic development encompasses entrepreneurship, community building, and capacity development to foster sustainable and resilient local economies. Her exceptional leadership has earned her various awards and accolades, including the Distinguished Citizen Planner Award and recognition as one of the “50 Most Influential Women in Arizona.” Recently, her team at Local First distributed $52M in small business relief aid during the pandemic and secured $32M in new capital for Arizona’s small cities, towns, Tribes, and nonprofits through grants. 

Rodney Hu (Panelist) is a 2nd generation Arizona native. He graduated from Marcos de Niza High School, and holds a Bachelor’s in Finance from Arizona State University. He spent 8 years on Wall Street as an investment analyst, working with firms like Bear Wagner Specialists, Bear, Stearns & Co., Goldman Sachs, and Cantor Fitzgerald. Currently he owns and operates the renowned Yucca Tap Room in Tempe and manages multiple commercial retail and residential rental properties. Rodney co-founded the Arizona Distilling Company, producing the first locally distilled spirits in Phoenix since prohibition. For the past decade, he has been actively involved in the cannabis industry, working with startups and licensed partnerships in Arizona. Rodney played a significant role in launching popular brands like Vital Infusions and Grand Daddy Genetics, advocating for legalization in the state. Phoenix New Times recognized him as one of the top 100 tastemakers, and he serves on several boards, including the Tempe Sports Authority Foundation.

Jean Seo (Panelist) opened the very first eco-chic beauty boutique in 2007. Jean’s Beverly Hills shop stocked the most popular green beauty brands, but her discerning Hollywood celebrity clients weren’t satisfied with results. So Jean researched what makes people age and formulated products with natural moisturizing factors that our body naturally produces but depletes with age. Jean holds a Masters of Library Science from UCLA. This allows her access to one of the largest libraries and databases in the world that she utilizes to research best ingredients, effectiveness, and innovations in skincare. Today, Evolue Skincare proudly offers two brands globally: EVOLUE Beverly Hills is anti-aging skincare; and LUE by Jean Seo is accessible organic skincare sold at 1,371 Walmart Supercenters in the US. Both brands provide a highly selective, thoughtfully curated roster of ingredients.

Sharon Ng (Panelist), a partner at Stinson LLP in Phoenix, is an experienced attorney with a strong employment and litigation background. She offers hands-on guidance to HR professionals and executives, adeptly defending employers in disputes and litigation. Sharon serves a diverse client base, including healthcare, technology companies, and Tribes, delivering creative solutions for real-world resolutions. Her litigation expertise covers breach of contract, employment class actions, discrimination cases, and wage disputes. Sharon is dedicated to diversity and inclusion, having led the Arizona Asian American Bar Association and mentored law students. She received the ACEL Corporate Leader Award and was honored as one of AZ Business Magazine’s Most Influential Minority Business Leaders in 2023. 

Adelaida V. Severson, Ph.D.(Panelist) is the President and CEO of Bushtex, Inc., a renowned satellite communications firm founded in 1994 with her husband, Barry. Over the years, she played a key role in expanding the company’s services, coordinating broadcasts for major events like NFL Super Bowl Games and the Olympics. Dr. Severson holds a B.A. in Journalism and International Relations from the University of Southern California, as well as a Masters of Mass Communication and a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Arizona State University. She has received numerous awards, including being named one of the “Most Influential Women in Arizona” and the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Pacific Southwest region. Her community involvement includes serving as a Flinn-Brown Fellow, an ASU Trustee, and participating in various philanthropic causes.
