Phoenix, AZ (August 24, 2016) – ACEL (Asian Corporate & Entrepreneur Leaders) member, Michael Chang, was recently chosen for the American Express Leadership Academy, a 9-month program funded by the American Express Foundation, specifically designed to further refine leadership skills for the Valley’s up-and-coming nonprofit professionals.  The curriculum covers public policy & advocacy, community collaboration, marketing & media relations, board development, and donor relations.

“I look forward to connecting with other non-profit leaders in the community,” Michael said of his expectations of the program. “I expect to learn more about community resources in the Valley and form partnerships with other members of my cohort over the next several months. I think the program will aid in my professional growth and provide a new diverse set of skills.”

As Director of Alumni Relations of A.T. Still University, Michael focuses on alumni and donor engagement.  He joined ACEL earlier this year to participate in the mentorship program, has already lent a hand on the planning committee for this past summer’s Dynamics of Leadership Conference, and also plans to participate in the upcoming Dragon Boat races.

Michael completed his BA degrees in Japanese and French from Arizona State University in 2009.  His interests in international business led him to study abroad in both Japan and France.  He completed a Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from ASU in 2012.  Michael has contributed to the growth of donor and community engagement in several non-profits in the Valley, including Make-A-Wish America.  He is committed to helping local organizations and their supporters share meaningful stories, and acting as a conduit for sustainable and purposeful collaboration.

In his spare time, Michael enjoys discovering new restaurants, and has a penchant for gelato, music, and aerial fitness.”
